NELMS Spotlight Award

On Monday, February 2nd, the Old Saybrook Middle School received notice that the school had been designated as a New England League of Middle Schools (NELMS) "Spotlight School". This is the third time that the Middle School has recieved this prestigious three-year award. Representatives from NELMS visited OSMS to learn about the Scientific-Based Research Intervention model (SRBI) and the Physical Fitness program currently being implemented.

According to the N.E.L.M.S website, the purpose of the Spotlight School Award is "to recognize schools that have a record of powerful learning for young adolescents and consistently observe middle level best practices. A NELMS Spotlight School is recognized for developing strong effective programs that reflect concepts contained in Turning Points 2000 and This We Believe."

Principal Rafferty commented, "We continue to receive educational awards because of the commitment and dedication of our teachers, solid classroom instructional practices, outstanding curricular offerings, many extra-curricular programs, positive school climate, outstanding parent involvement, and the community."
