September, 2009 Dear Parents, Guardians, and Community Members, Some of you are very excited that the beginning of the 2009—2010 school year is upon us while some of you desire more time to enjoy the recent warm weather that has eluded us much of this season. But to paraphrase an ancient philosopher, time waits for no one. Our administrative, clerical, instructional, food service, maintenance, and technology staffs have been working tirelessly this summer to prepare for the opening of school. We are enthusiastic and passionate about providing a well-rounded, comprehensive educational experience for each of our students. The summer provides two months to finalize the previous school year and prepare for the upcoming one. Our office and technical staffs have prepared the materials and mechanisms to ensure a smooth opening. Our food service department has revised our menu offerings and service delivery in response to your feedback. Teachers and instructional staff have spent countless hours working on curriculum revisions, as well as participating in various professional development opportunities. Our custodial and maintenance department has a monumental task of revitalizing our buildings and grounds while completing many construction and renovation projects. In addition, they are following strict cleaning protocols for school cleanliness. Our administrative team has overseen all of this work as well as participated in leadership activities to strengthen our teamwork. I want to assure you that Old Saybrook Public Schools is continuing to diligently work in collaboration with national, state, regional, and local health departments as well as our local Emergency Management Team to receive timely and accurate information regarding the H1N1 (Swine Flu) situation. It is very important for everyone’s health and well-being that we do everything possible to limit the spread of influenza by watching for symptoms in our children and ourselves, staying home when ill, and practicing good hygiene through careful hand-washing and appropriate coughing techniques. The Center for Disease Control (CDC) has emphasized that early identification of the illness and keeping children home when symptoms first present themselves is the primary way to reduce the spread of the flu in schools and other organizations. I look forward to welcoming you in person to this new school year through our school functions and community events. Your input has strengthened our partnership that benefits our children and families. I truly wish you a wonderful autumn and transition to the 2009—2010 school year.
Sincerely yours, |
